Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: Patient should be fasting. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) OR Red-top tube – 0.5 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Collect blood by venipuncture, avoiding hemolysis. Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Serum free from hemolysis is the recommended specimen. Hemolyzed samples may indicate mistreatment of a specimen before receipt by the laboratory; hence the results should be interpreted with caution. Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Serum should be transferred to a Standard Transport Tube and freeze. Ship sample frozen. Storage/Transportation: Frozen Stability: After separation of cells: Frozen at –20°C: 1 week Rejection Criteria: Any sample that is mislabeled; Any broken or damaged tubes.
