0993
Methodology: | High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) |
Performed: | Mon., Wed., Fri |
Reported: | 3-5 days |
Specimen Required: | Collect: Green (sodium or lithium heparin) – 0.5 ml plasma PROTECTED FROM LIGHT. Specimen Preparation: Collect green tube and place immediately in an ice bath. Protect sample from light as much as possible. Separate plasma from cells ASAP by centrifugation for 5-10 minutes. Transfer plasma to an amber transport tube to protect from light and FREEZE ASAP (less than one hour) after transferring plasma into light protected tube. If amber tubes are unavailable, cover standard transport tube completely, top and bottom, with aluminum foil. Identify specimen with patient’s name directly on the container and on the outside of the aluminum foil. Secure with tape. Storage/Transport Temperature: FROZEN AND LIGHT PROTECTED. Unacceptable Conditions: Serum, EDTA plasma, whole blood, or body fluids. Remarks: Thawing and refreezing of the specimen and exposure to light will result in decreased Vitamin C concentration. Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 7 days.
