Specimen Required: | Collect: Green-top (Sodium Heparin) tube – 0.5 ml plasma. Protect from light. Specimen Preparation: Use all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Separate plasma from cells within two hours of collection by centrifugation for 5-10 minutes. Transfer plasma to an amber transport tube to protect from light and FREEZE. If amber tubes are unavailable, cover standard transport tube completely, top and bottom, with aluminum foil. Identify specimen with patient’s name directly on the container and on the outside of the aluminum foil. Secure with tape. Transport/Storage Temperature: CRITICALLY FROZEN Causes for Rejection: Specimen not protected from light; not frozen: hemolysis; whole blood; EDTA Preserved Tube; Serum; other Body Fluids.
