Specimen Required: | Collect: Green (sodium or lithium heparin) – 1 ml plasma. Specimen Preparation: Separate plasma from cells within two hours of collection by centrifugation for 5-10 minutes. Transfer plasma to an amber transport tube to protect from light and FREEZE. If amber tubes are unavailable, cover standard transport tube completely, top and bottom, with aluminum foil. Identify specimen with patient’s name directly on the container and on the outside of the aluminum foil. Secure with tape. Storage/Transport Temperature: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are requested. Unacceptable Conditions: Serum, whole blood, or body fluids. EDTA preserved tubes. Non-frozen, hemolyzed, or lipemic specimens.
