Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: None required Collect: Green (sodium or lithium heparin) – 0.5 ml plasma. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Separate plasma from cells within two hours of collection by centrifugation for 5-10 minutes. Transfer plasma to an amber transport tube to protect from light and FREEZE. If amber tubes are unavailable, cover standard transport tube completely, top and bottom, with aluminum foil. Identify specimen with patient’s name directly on the container and on the outside of the aluminum foil. Secure with tape. Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Unacceptable Conditions: Not frozen heparinized plasma, not protected from light, whole blood, EDTA preserved tubes, serum, any other body fluid. Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient/Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen at -20°C: 7 days. NOTE: * This test is approved for all states. * Performing Lab Accu Reference Medical Laboratory |
