Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: An 8 to 12-hour fast is recommended but not required in order to minimize any possible lipemia. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) – 0.5 ml. Specimen Preparation: Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: Transferrin is stable in serum for 1 week when stored at 2-8 C. Transferrin is stable for 40 days at <-20°C and can be repeatedly frozen and thawed without loss of immunological activity.
