Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: None required Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) – 0.5 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigearated. Stability: Separated serum should remain at 22˚C for no longer than eight hours; Refrigerated (2-8˚C) – 48 hours; Frozen at or below-20˚C – 2 weeks. Rejection Criteria: Any sample that is mislabeled; Any broken or damaged tubes. Caution: Serum samples are not to be repeatedly frozen and thawed, since this can cause analyte deterioration.
