Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation Requirements: No fasting required Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) AND Anogenital Lesion Swab (Aptima Orange Swab). Note: Swab Specimen MUST BE IDENTIFIED with the source and the actual word “LESION”. Only for Vaginal/Penile/Anal Lesions . Specimen Preparation: For Blood: Collect sample observing universal precautions for venipuncture. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. For swab: Standard procedures for collecting sample. When transporting biological specimens, ensure that all applicable regulations for the transport of etiologic agents are met. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: For Blood: Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 weeks For Swab: Refrigerated: 1 week Specimen Rejection: Mislabeled (Unlabeled specimen or name discrepancy between specimen and request label), Samples that do not have the proper source type written on the swab.
