Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation Requirements: Due to the circadian rhythm of sd-LDL-C serum concentrations, it is recommended that specimens be collected in the morning. Fasting samples are preferred. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) OR Red Top Tube – 8 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Collect whole blood by venipuncture and allow clotting. Centrifuge and separate serum as soon as possible after collection. Red Top Tube: Transfer the serum into a standard transfer tube. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. If samples shipped frozen, they must be in dry ice. Stability: After separation of cells: Refrigerated (2 to 8ºC): 3 days, Frozen at −80 ºC or below for longer storage. No more than three freeze-thaw cycles. At Accu: Frozen: 2 weeks. Specimen Rejection Criteria: • Specimen collected in the incorrect tubes • Specimen received with mismatched or no patient identifiers. • Specimen received outside of stability requirements.
