Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: None required. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST). Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Store serum at 2-8°C until analysis. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability : Refrigerated: 7 days at 2–8°C; Frozen: 3 months at -20°C. At ACCU: Refrigerated: 7 days; Frozen: 2 weeks. Lipemia: Gross lipemia has been shown to cause a decrease in the apparent progesterone concentration. The use of an ultracentrifuge is recommended to clear lipemic samples. Specimen Rejection Criteria: • Specimen collected in the incorrect tube. • Specimen received with mismatch or no patient identifier. • Specimen received outside stability requirements.
