Specimen Required:Patient Preparation: Fast 12 hours prior to collection.

Collect: Plain Red and Serum Separator Tube (SST).

Specimen Preparation: All human Serum Samples are considered to be potentially infective and are to be treated as such. Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Gently invert tube to mix contents and allow to clot at room temperature. Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes.
Transfer serum FROM RED TOP TUBE to a Standard Transport Tube.
Store serum at 2-8°C until analysis. Serum samples, free from hemolysis, are the recommended
specimens. Use of the following anticoagulants is not recommended : oxalate, citrate or fluoride.
Storage/Transport temperature: Refrigerated.
Stability:
FOR RED TOBE: Refrigerated: 1 month; Frozen: Unacceptable
FOR SST: Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 weeks
Causes for Rejection:  Plasma. Non-fasting or lipemic specimens.
