Specimen Required: | Collect: Starswabs II® Amies gel transport medium (blue-cap Copan® or BD® swab) or Eswab to obtain the specimen. Specimen Preparation: Insert the entire collection tip of the swab provided (usually ½ to ¾ of an inch, or 1 to 1.5 cm) inside the nostril. Firmly sample the nasal wall by rotating the swab in a circular path against the nasal wall at least 4 times. Take approximately 15 seconds to collect the specimen. Return swab back to the plastic transport tube and make sure the cap is on tight. Remark:For interior nares – one swab can be used fro both nistrils;For Axilla- one swab can be used for both axillae; For All skin lesions and non-healed wounds – one swab per site; For Indwelling device sited except urinary catheters – one swab per side. Transport/Storage Temperature: Room Temperature. Stability: Room Temperature: 72 hours. Rejection Criteria: Swab submitted in VTM (Viral Transport Medium); Swab submitted in expired transport medium; Cotton fiber swab; Swab in vacutainer tuve with additive.
