Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: A 12-hour or greater fast is required. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST). Specimen Preparation: All human Serum Samples are considered to be potentially infective and are to be treated as such. Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Store serum at 2-8°C until analysis. Serum samples, free from hemolysis, are the recommended specimens. Use of the following anticoagulants is not recommended : oxalate, citrate or fluoride. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 weeks. Unacceptable Conditions: Urine or plasma.
