| Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: Acute (at onset of illness) or convalescent specimen should be noted on tube Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) OR Red Top Tube – 0.5 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer serum from Red Top Tube to a standard transport tube. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: After separation of cells: Refrigerated at 2-8°C: 5 days ; Frozen at -20C or lower: 7 days Criteria for Rejection: Do not use bacterially contaminated, hemolyzed, or lipemic samples.
