Specimen Required:Patient Preparation: Timing of specimen collection: Pre-dose (trough) draw – At steady state concentration. 
Collect: Plain Red, Lavender (EDTA), OR Green (sodium or lithium heparin) – 1 ml serum or plasma.
Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer  serum or plasma to a Standard Transport Tube.
Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen. 
Unacceptable Conditions: Serum separator tubes. Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens. 
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: 6 months
