Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation Requirements: Not applicable. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) OR Red Top Tube – 1 ml serum or plasma. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP to prevent hemolysis. Transfer serum from Red Top Tube to a Standard Transport Tube. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated at 2 – 8 °C within stability period. If delayed transport is anticipated, specimens should be shipped frozen. Stability: After separation from cells: Refrigerated at 2 – 8 ° C: 7 days; Frozen at ≤ – 20 °C: 2 weeks. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Specimen Rejection Criteria: • Specimens received with mismatched or no patient identifiers • Specimens received outside of specimen stability • Samples containing rheumatoid factor or paraproteins NOTE: * This test is approved for all states. * Performing Lab Accu Reference Medical Laboratory |
