Specimen Required:Patient Preparation: None required.

Collect: Whole Blood Lavender (EDTA) K2EDTA or K3EDTA
Specimen Preparation: Transport 5 ml whole blood in original tube.
Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated
Stability: Refrigerated between 2 and 8 °C: 7 days
Rejection Criteria:
1. Any sample that is mislabeled, mismatched or no patient identifiers
2. Any sample without a test request
3. Any broken or damaged tubes
4. Specimens collected in the incorrect tubes.
5. Specimen received outside of stability requirements.
Note: Avoid coagulated blood samples.
If Hemoglobin S is detected, reflex testing for sickle cell disease confirmation will be automatically performed
