Specimen Required: | Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) – 1 ml serum. “Pre” and 30-day “post” Haemophilus influenzae b vaccination specimens should be submitted together for testing. “Post” specimen should be drawn 30 days after immunization and must be received within 60 days of “pre” specimen. Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Mark specimens clearly as “Pre-Vaccine” or “Post-Vaccine”. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Unacceptable Conditions: Plasma or other body fluids. Contaminated, hemolyzed or, severely lipemic specimens. Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles) Note: This test is approved for NY.
