Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: Prior to sample collection, an 8-12 hour fast is recommended, but not required for the patient. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) AND Lavender (EDTA). Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Collected samples standing for hours should be inverted to move the RBC from the bottom then mixed to improve and equilibrate the homogeneity of the sample. Mix blood samples at least 8 times by hand inversion. Serum free from hemolysis is the recommended specimen. Allow SST sample to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Storage/Transportation: Refrigerated. Stability: After separation of cells (SST tube): Refrigerated: 3 days, Frozen 2 weeks LAV tube: Refrigerated: 48 hours. Rejection Criteria: •Hemolysis; •Clotted Specimen; •Improperly labeled specimen; •QNS. •Mislabeled specimen or Specimen received outside of stability requirements; •Broken or damaged tubes.
