Specimen Required: | Collect: Gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate) OR Plain Red OR Green (sodium heparin) OR lavender (EDTA) – 4 ml plasma or serum. Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Remove plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer plasma or serum to a Standard Transport Tube. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Separator tubes. Plasma or whole blood collected in lt. blue (sodium citrate). Cocaine and cocaethylene are more stable in fluoride-preserved plasma than serum. Stability: After separation from cells: Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month Note: This test is approved for NY.
