Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: No special preparation of the patient is required. Collect: Lavender (EDTA) AND Lt. Blue-top (sodium citrate) tube AND Serum Separator Tube (SST). Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). LAV and Lt. Blue tubes should be mixed immediately by gentle inversion at least six times by hand inversion. Allow SST tube to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Avoid hemolysis. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: LAV tube Refrigerated: 24 hours at 2 to 8°C Lt. Blue tube Unopened (Whole Blood): Room Temperature: 48 hours. SST Tube After separation from cells: Refrigerated: 1 week, Frozen 2 weeks Rejection Criteria: Specimens collected in the incorrect tubes. Specimens received with mismatched or no patient identifiers. Specimen received outside of stability requirements.
