Specimen Required:Patient Preparation: None required

Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) OR Red Top Tube – 0.5 ml serum. 

Specimen Preparation: All human serum samples are considered to be potentially infectious and are to be
treated as such. Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate personal
protective equipment (PPE).
Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Centrifuge RED TOP tube and separate serum into a plastic specimen transport tube.
Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.
Stability: After separation from cells: Refrigerated: 7 days; Frozen : 30 days.
Unacceptable Specimens:
a. Whole Blood
b. Not Frozen
c. Grossly Lipemic
d. Grossly Hemolyzed
