Specimen Required:Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) – 2 ml serum.
Also acceptable: Red Top OR Lavender (EDTA) 
Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Centrifuge specimen. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to a Standard Transport Tube for Cortisol Free test. Label plainly as a.m. or p.m. collection.
Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated 
Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens collected in plasma separator tubes containing heparin. Grossly hemolyzed or heparinized specimens.
Stability: After separation from cells: Refrigerated: 5 days; Frozen: 1 month
Note: This test is approved for NY.
