Specimen Required: | Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) OR Red Top – 1 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: All human serum samples are considered to be potentially infectious and are to be treated as such. Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Centrifuge specimen. Separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum from RED Top tube to a Standard Transport Tube. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens collected in plasma separator tubes containing heparin. Grossly hemolyzed or heparinized specimens.
