Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: An 8 to 12-hour fast is recommended, but not required in order to minimize any possible lipemia. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigearated. Stability: Separated serum should remain at 22˚C for no longer than eight hours.- If assays will not be completed within eight hours, serum should be refrigerated (2-8˚C) – 48 hours.- If assays are not completed within 48 hours, or the separated serum is to be stored beyond 48 hours, serum should be frozen at or below-20˚C – 2 weeks. Rejection Criteria: Any sample that is mislabeled; Any broken or damaged tubes.
