Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: None required Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) – 0.5 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigearated. Stability: Once separated from cells, Bicarbonate in serum is stable for 24 hours when stored at 20 – 25°C and protected from exposure to air. Refigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 weeks. NOTE: Serum free from hemolysis is the recommended specimens. Rejection Criteria: Any sample that is mislabeled; Any broken or damaged tubes.
