113
Methodology: | Quantitative Spectrophotometry |
Performed: | Sun-Sat |
Reported: | 1-2 days |
Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: None required Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) – 0.5 ml serum, free from hemolysis. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Store serum at 2-8°C until analysis. Protect specimen from light as soon as possible. Exposure to direct sunlight can decrease bilirubin in samples by 50% with in one hour. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: After separation of cells, When well protected from light, bilirubin in serum is stable for up to 3 days at 2 – 8°C ; Frozen: three months when stored at<-20°C in the dark.
