Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: An 8 to 12-hour fast is recommended but not required. A fasting sample should minimize any possible lipemia. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) – 0.5 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Serum free from hemolysis is the recommended specimen. Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Storage/Transportation: Refrigerated Stability: After separation of cells: Refrigerated: 1 week, Frozen 2 weeks Rejection Criteria: Any sample that is mislabeled; Any broken or damaged tubes.
