Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation Requirements: Non-fasting. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) OR Red Top Tube – 1.0 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Allow serum samples to clot completely before centrifugation in a vertical, closure up position. Nonanticoagulated tubes containing gel or a clot activator should be stored in an upright position as soon as the mixing is complete. Physically separate serum from contact cells as soon as possible. Keep tubes stoppered at all times. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: Room temperature (15 to 30°C), tightly stoppered: 24 hours. Refrigerated (2 to 8 °C): 6 days . Frozen (≤-20°C): 1 month. Freeze NO MORE THAN 2 TIMES At ACCU: Frozen: 2 weeks Specimen Rejection Criteria: Specimen collected in the incorrect tube. Specimen received with mismatched patient identifier. Specimen received outside stability requirements. Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic samples.
