Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: No special preparation of the patient is required. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) AND Lavender (EDTA). Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Collected samples standing for hours should be inverted to move the RBC from the bottom then mixed to improve and equilibrate the homogeneity of the sample. Mix blood samples at least 8 times by hand inversion. Serum free from hemolysis is the recommended specimen. Allow SST sample to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for10 minutes. Storage/Transportation: Refrigerated. Stability: After separation of cells (SST tube): Refrigerated: 1 week, Frozen 2 weeksLAV tube: Refrigerated: 48 hours. Rejection Criteria: •Hemolysis; •Clotted Specimen; •Specimen diluted with IV fluid; •Improperly labeled specimen; •Poured off transfer tubes (whole blood); •QNS.
