Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: None fasting. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST®) OR Red Top Tube – 0.5 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Submit serum from red Top Tube into a plastic transport tube. Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: After separation from cells: Room Temperature at at 20-25°C: 5 days; Refrigerated at 2-8 °C : 14 days; Frozen at -20 °C (± 5 °C): 6 months. Freeze only once. At ACCU Reference: Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 weeks Specimen Rejection Criteria: •Specimen collected in the incorrect tube. •Specimen received with mismatch or no patient identifier. •Specimen received outside stability requirements. •Grossly Hemolyzed or Lipemic samples.
