Specimen Required: | Patient Preparation: Non-fasting. It is useful to recommend that samples be collected at a consistent time of day. Morning samples taken between 7:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon have been recommended. Collect: Serum Separator Tube (SST) OR Red Top Tube – 0.5 ml serum. Specimen Preparation: Follow all precaution for handling biological material. Use all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Stability: After separation from cells: Room Temperature at 15 to 30°C: 8 hours; Refrigerated at 2 to 8°C.: 6 days; Frozen at -20 °C or colder for longer time. Thaw samples no more than 3 times. At Accu Reference: Refrigerated: 6 days; Frozen: 2 weeks Specimen Rejection Criteria: • Specimen collected in the incorrect tubes • Specimen received with mismatched or no patient identifiers. • Specimen received outside of stability requirements. • Grossly Hemolyzed or Lipemic samples.
